Minakami Onsen
For centuries Onsen (hot springs) have been central to Japanese domestic tourism as the healing, soothing powers of the volcanic springs have long been sought after as the perfect way to alleviate the stress of everyday life in the bustling city.
Although communal bathing is still a concept that many from the west have difficulty with the Japanese have long seen bathing together as the perfect way to break down communication barriers and as such onsen have long played an important role in Japanese culture.
Minakami is renowned in Japan for its abundance of natural hot spring water and, along with neighbouring Kusatsu, is one of the most famous onsen destinations in the Kanto region.
