Ryokan are traditional Japanese-style Inns and have anything from 10 to 100 rooms. Although recently the line between ryokan and western style hotel is sometimes blurred and some establishments now offer western beds, most will have straw-mat flooring (tatami) to sleep on using foldable matresses (futon) which can be put away during the day to create a more open space to relax.
After a full day of activities and adventure soak your weary bones in the medicinal waters of Minakami’s famous natural hot springs, don a traditional Japanese gown and dine on a sumptuous Japanese full-course meal (kaiseki), perhaps indulge in some of the local sake and then stroll through the Japanese garden and reflect on an action-packed day.
